A month or so ago our 4 blue cranes were taken from the nature reserve by the person who owned their certificates who sold them and emigrated to Australia. The estate were heartbroken as he hadn’t even bothered to ask if FWG would like to buy them. One of them was hand reared from an egg by a resident! The matter was all highly emotional and ugly.

Yesterday a breeding pair of blue cranes aged 6 and 7 – right age for breeding – were released into our nature reserve in Phase one of the Estate! They are being fed by a resident who lives in a property bordering the reserve and the food mixture including corn, vegetables, Crane food and boiled eggs are being supplied by Jhb Zoo, from whence they came!
