Our new Environmental Director, Andrew Ward is an avid gardener and passionate about the successful maintenance and further development of our public gardens and verges. He has appealed to all home owners to take up the challenge of beautifying our verges… it will also have the desired effect of improving your home value!

Remember, we are still on water restrictions, so please abide by the rules.

At the Gardening Club, we are fortunate to have very knowledgeable gardening buffs as members, including Johan Barnard who has suggested the following plants for consideration for your new verge as they are low maintenance:

VERGE WORTHY PLANTS: Dietes Grandiflora Tulbachia Agapanthus Hemmerocallis New Zealand flax – come in different colours Or a mix of grasses and stones! Grasses like Anthericum, Carex

STYLE ADDITIONS: Aloes or Cycads – even in pots – they can take the drier conditions A Sculpture Railway sleeper wood planks arranged in an interesting way Rocks A small winding pathway

YOUR GARDEN: And a frequent presenter at our Club is Craig de Necker of THE FRIENDLY PLANT:

Summer is not the only time to enjoy your garden - it is the perfect time to plan and build a feature that will make you want to spend time in your garden through the colder seasons too! A simple pathway, fire pit, water feature or patio is something that adds value to your home as well as (arguably more importantly) to your lifestyle.

So come on everyone, let’s make 2017 the year we will be proud of our creations in our Verge gardens and enhance the value of our homes! Happy Gardening, Francesca Beattie
